Back Field in Motion

9 x 12 Pastel.  This is a painting that I actually started in Breckenridge, Colorado during my time as an artist in residence this summer.  It was sandwiched in with a bunch of things that I shipped back and I just now got back to finishing it.  This was from a photo I took in Hawaii this spring.  I must say it was hard to capture what I was after with my antiquated camera.  That usually is a good thing, since my goal is not to copy anything but to use my photograph as an inspiration.  I needed the photo just to make sure it looked like a koi!  Who would have thought foreshortening needed to be thought of when painting a fish!  I tried to capture the movement...
